Yahoo launches MoviePlex; Offers free Bollywood movies

movieplexIt is said that over 30 million internet users download and watch 1.7 billion videos every month across India and to tap that online portal Yahoo has launched Movieplex, which will bring thousands of licensed Bollywood movies to the users. It’ll also promote a piracy-free quality entertainment space.

Movieplex is a video space and users can enjoy licensed full-length movies for free. The portal has collaborated with production houses for the same and will be offering movies like “Rock On”, “Rann”, and “Dil To Baccha Hai Ji”.

According to a report by market research leaderComScore, the Indian audience is currently spending over 9.1 billion minutes watching online videos each month with entertainment as the leading category in online video content consumption ahead of news and sports content.

Arun Tadanki, managing director, Yahoo, feels Movieplex would be successful in providing guilt-free entertainment to the consumers.

“Over 30 million internet users consume 1.7 billion videos every month across India. With the increasing demand for online video, both consumers and content providers are looking for a trusted destination where quality content can be consumed in a piracy-free environment at their leisure,” he said.

File sharing websites blocked in India

In a major step taken by Department of Telecom(DOT), a large number of File sharing/hosting websites have been blocked in India.

While it is not clear that why this major step has been taken but rumor has it that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) and other Telecom companies are blocking these sites to prevent Piracy and Porn in India and also Telecom companies are getting huge sum of money from Film producers to block these sites, as they are the ones to suffer most from the Piracy of movies in India.

Some websites that are being blocked are as follows: -

  • Megaupload.com
  • Rapidshare.com
  • Mediafire.com
  • Megavideo.com
  • VideoBB.com
  • Putlocker.com
  • Hotfile.com
  • Filesonic.com
  • Depositfiles.com

And various other file sharing websites.

While some have reported that the said sites are working fine on their network, it may be due to slow propagation of the DNS of their ISP or maybe any other reason.

Major update now Live for Android Market

android_marketGoogle Android Market gets a major update on Android smartphones.

Google has announced that Android devices running version 2.2 and higher will get this update. With this new update Android users would be able to purchase books and can rent movies as well.

The user interface also gets revamped to make searching easier for the users.

You don’t need to do anything – the update is automatic on supported phones. If you’re in the U.S., you’ll also be able to download the Videos app, rent movies, and buy books once you receive the new Android Market.
